Swim Programs

Junior Beginner

This squad is designed for swimmers who have progressed from our Learn to Swim program and stroke development program, who are proficient technically and psychological demands to undertake a squad environment, or those swimmers from outside of Clayfield College who fit the criteria. An exception to this is if a younger swimmer displays exceptional technical form and motor skills and has achieved the expectations and requirements for the squad, this is also dependent on coaches’ discretion.

Requirements:
  • Swimmers in this squad are required to be members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA meets and club nights.
  • Swimmers in this squad have acquired the basic technical skills necessary to swim efficiently in Back, Breast and Free and are working towards Fly.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.6x50 Free on 1.30 cycle. 8x25 I.M. Order on 1.15 cycle. 200 Kick under 8mins.
  • Minimum of 2 sessions per week (Tuesday, Thursday 3.30-4.30 & Saturday 8.00-9.00).
  • Swim bag containing fins, pair of goggles, kick board, pull buoy, water bottle


Junior Advanced

This squad is designed for swimmers who are 9 years of age and older and SWIMMING is their number one sport in the summer months. They also see competition as an integral part of their development in the sport. An exception to this is if a younger swimmer displays exceptional technical form and motor skills and has achieved the expectations and requirements for the squad. (discretion of the coaching staff)

Requirements:
  • Swimmers in this squad have achieved Australian Junior Excellence qualifying no lower than a Bronze Standard for their age, in at least 2 strokes. http://www.platypuslagoon.org.au
  • Swimmers in this squad are to continue training over holiday periods and are required to be members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA and QSA meets.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.6x100 Free on 2.15 cycle. 3x100 I.M. on 2.40 cycle. 400 Kick under 12.00.
  • Swim bag containing fins, pair of goggles, kick board, pull buoy, water bottle.
Minimum of 3 sessions per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3.30-4.30 & Saturday 8.00-9.00).

Please Note this will vary between age groups as the top tier advanced swimmers will be offered some Intermediate morning sessions.



Junior Competition

This squad is designed for swimmers who are 9 years of age and older and SWIMMING is their number one sport in the summer months. An exception to this is if a younger swimmer displays exceptional technical form and motor skills and has achieved the expectations and requirements for the squad. (This is at the discretion of the coaching staff). The swimmers of this squad must also see competition as an integral part of their development in the sport.  The philosophy behind the squad is to reward and further challenge our most talented and committed Junior Swimmers.

Requirements:
  • All swimmers must be members of Clayfield Aquatics and commit to swimming designated BSA and QSA competitions throughout the season.
  • Swimmers in this squad have achieved Australian Junior Excellence qualifying no lower than a Bronze Standard (in their age group) in at least 3 strokes.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of; 200 Kick on 4.30, 6 x 100 fs on 2.00, 6 x 100 IM on 2.20.
  •  In addition to the performance criteria above, swimmers must also be technically proficient in all 4 strokes (this will be the coach’s judgment).
  •  Minimum of 3 sessions per week. Swimmers must attend the designated sessions set by the coach.
  • Swimmers in this squad are to possess a positive attitude towards training and competing and an all round willingness to strive to reach their potential in the sport.
  • Swim bag containing fins, pull buoy, kick board, goggles and water bottle.
 

Intermediate

This squad is designed for swimmers who are 11 years of age and older and SWIMMING is their number one sport in the summer months. They also see competition as an integral part of their development in the sport. An exception to this is if a younger swimmer displays exceptional technical form and motor skills and has achieved the expectations and requirements for the squad.

Requirements:
  • Swimmers in this squad have achieved Australian Junior Excellence qualifying no lower than a Bronze Standard (11 Years if under) in at least 2 strokes. Swimmers in this squad are also striving for State qualifying.
  • Swimmers in this squad are to continue training over holiday periods and are required to be members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA and QSA meets.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.10x100 on 1.45 cycle & I.M. on 2.00, 400 Kick on 9.00
  • Swimmers in this squad MUST have and use a log book to record training. This is not for the purpose of the coach, however logs will be collected to observe how the swimmer is progressing.
  • Minimum of 4 sessions per week (will vary between age groups, coach will let you know)
  • Swimmers in this squad are to possess a positive attitude towards training and competing and an all round willingness to strive to reach their potential in the sport.
  • Swim bag containing fins, snorkel, pair of goggles, kick board, pull buoy, water bottle, paddles and log book.


Senior Squad / QGSSA

This program is designed to promote swimming for those athletes that are all rounders and that can’t commit to the training, competition and performance criteria of the State and National squads.

 Requirements:

  • Swimmers in this squad are striving to achieve State Qualifying times.
  • Swimmers in this squad are encouraged to continue training over holiday periods as well as become members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA and QSA meets.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.10x100fs on 1.45cycle. 10x100IM on 2.00 cycle.
  • 5 sessions per week (Will vary between age groups and depend on other commitments)
  • Swimmers in this squad are to possess a positive attitude towards training and competing and an all round willingness to strive to reach their potential in the sport.
  • Swim bag containing fins, snorkel, pair of goggles, pull buoy, water bottle, paddles, log book.


State Squad

This squad is designed for swimmers who have SWIMMING as their number one sport and also see competition as an integral part of their development in the sport.

Requirements:
  • Swimmers in this squad are striving to achieve National Qualifying times.
  • Swimmers in this squad are to continue training over holiday periods and are required to be members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA and QSA meets.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.10x100fs on 1.30 cycle. 10x100IM on 1.40 cycle. 400’k’ on 7.30, 400’p’ on 6.00
  • Swimmers in this squad MUST have and use a log book to record training. This is not for the purpose of the coach, however logs will be collected to observe how the swimmer is progressing.
  • Minimum of 6 sessions per week (Will vary between age groups, coach will let you know)
  • Swimmers in this squad are required to fulfil extra individualised exercises before training recommended by Red Hill Physiotherapy (from results of personal musculoskeletal screening)
  • Swimmers in this squad are to possess a positive attitude towards training and competing and an all round willingness to strive to reach their potential in the sport.
  • Swim bag containing fins, snorkel, pair of goggles, pull buoy, water bottle, paddles, log book.
 
  • SWIMMERS IN THIS SQUAD ARE REQUIRED TO CALL THE COACH IF UNABLE TO ATTEND A SESSION.

National Squad

 This squad is designed for swimmers who have SWIMMING as their number one sport and also see competition as an integral part of their development in the sport.

 Requirements:

  •  Swimmers in this squad have achieved National Qualifying times and/or are members of the National YPS program.
  • Swimmers in this squad are to continue training over holiday periods and are required to be members of Clayfield Aquatics competing at designated BSA and QSA meets.
  • Swimmers in this squad are able to cope with a minimum load of e.g.10x100fs on 1.20 cycle. 10x100IM on 1.30 cycle. 400’k’ on 7.00 (1.45 base) 400’p’ on 5.30
  • Swimmers in this squad MUST have and use a log book to record training. This is not for the purpose of the coach, however logs will be collected to observe how the swimmer is progressing.
  • Minimum of 7 sessions per week (Will vary between age groups, coach will let you know)
  • Swimmers in this squad are required to fulfil extra individualised exercises before training recommended by Red Hill Physiotherapy (from results of personal musculoskeletal screening)
  • Swimmers in this squad are to possess a positive attitude towards training and competing and an all round willingness to strive to reach their potential in the sport.
  • Swimmers in this squad will be required to attend Long Course training at the Valley pool as well as undertake the Strength and Conditioning program at Clayfield.
  • Swim bag containing fins, snorkel, pair of goggles, pull buoy, water bottle, paddles, log book, drag pants/parachute.

  • SWIMMERS IN THIS SQUAD ARE REQUIRED TO CALL THE COACH IF UNABLE TO ATTEND A SESSION.
